FAQ

Do I need to live in Darlington/Pawtucket to sign my daughter up?

Absolutely not! The Darlington Girls Softball League welcomes players from any of the surrounding areas, including in Massachusetts.

How do I sign up?

Prior to the start of each season and clinic, an online registration link can be found on our home page and on our social media accounts. Additionally, we host an in-person sign-up session for parents who prefer this approach.

What is the minimum playing age?

We use age brackets based on birth year. The minimum playing age is 5. Below is the breakdown of each of our league divisions.
Instructional: Girls ages 5-8 are eligible to play in the Instructional division. This division will also focus on fundamentals. This division will be coach pitch. A coach from the hitting team will pitch to the players. A softened 11-inch ball is used in this division.
Minors: Girls ages 9-10 are eligible to play in our minor league division. This division will introduce live pitching, as there will be no use of a hitting tee or a pitching machine. Starting in this division, girls will be able to steal bases (with some limitations) and will get exposure to more advanced aspects of the game. An 11-inch ball will be used in this division.
Majors: Girls ages 11-13 are eligible to play in our major league division. This division will also use live pitching. Rules will be expanded in this division to match that of standard ASA rules, such as stealing home, dropping the third strike, etc. A 12-inch ball will be used in this division.
Seniors: Girls ages 14-18 are eligible to play in our senior division. As with the majors, rules are expanded to match that of standard ASA rules (described above).

Can my daughter be on her friend’s/sibling’s team?

We accept requests for friends and siblings to join the same team, however, we cannot guarantee we can accommodate every request.

My daughter has never played before, will she fit in?

At the recreation level, the focus is on developing and learning while still being competitive. As a league, we have playing rules in place to ensure that everyone gets into the game. Our commitment is always safety first when it comes to position placement with inexperienced players.

Can we request a refund after registration?

Yes, 100% refunds are given up until the season starts. No refunds after that time. Please refer to our Refund Policy for more details.

What is included in my registration fee?

Our registration fee includes the cost of your daughter’s uniform jersey, league insurance, softballs, umpire fees, and many more miscellaneous expenses. Not included are pants, sliders, cleats, and softball equipment (gloves, bats, helmets).

What equipment do I need to provide?

You must provide your daughter with the following equipment to play:
Softball Glove: We suggest considering a used glove if your daughter is new to the game, as the used glove will already be broken in.
Softball Cleats: Required for all players to prevent them from slipping on the field when running.
Batting Helmets: Mandatory and all helmets must have a face mask.
Softball Bat: Normally coaches will have a couple to share, however, most players have their own matched to the proper length and weight for their physique.
Fielding Face Mask: Wearing a protective mask can help prevent head and face injuries caused by hard-hit balls or collisions on the field.

How long does the season last?

Each season lasts 6 weeks. Spring Recreational season starts at the beginning of April and the Fall Recreational season starts at the beginning of September.

When are practices?

Practice times are at the discretion of the manager. Most teams will practice twice per week, however, some coaches may practice once per week.

Does my daughter get to keep her uniform?

Yes.

Must my daughter wear her uniform to all games?

Yes, a complete uniform must be worn at all games. If you are not wearing your uniform, you will be ineligible to play that game. Exception: a complete uniform has not been given to a player.

What if it rains?

Sometimes we are unable to determine whether or not games will be played early in the day. Managers will update parents with field closures. We will also share cancellations on our social media accounts.

When is the Winter Clinic?

Our Winter Clinics start at the beginning of February and end at the end of March.
